After a series of disappointing results Germany is opting for a new national final format this year. ‘Unser star für Oslo’ involves a series of public auditions, the more comical of which can be seen on the Pro Sieben website here (opens in new window).
The live shows will take place 2nd and 9th February with ten acts competing in each. Five performers from each heat will move forward to the next stage of the selection – the elimination rounds. After the semi final, two acts will remain to compete in the grand final on 12th March, where they will perform the song chosen as Germany’s Eurovision entry.
The format is similar to the UK’s ‘Your Country Needs You’ which led to Jade Ewen attaining the UK’s best result for years, finishing 5th in Moscow last year.
